Zephyr Lodge Condo -- Area Information

Most anyone who has lived in a winter climate has been exposed to the informal pastime of snow tubing or snow sledding.  If you are looking for an inexpensive alternative to give those sore ski legs a rest, try an afternoon of tubing.   Or you may find that youngsters -- from toddler to teenager -- who delight in skiing all day long seem to always find energy for an evening sledding excursion.  Ours always had that energy.

The Winter Park area has three several sledding alternatives and include a lift served option.   Two old time popular sledding locations on forest service land have been recently closed and are no longer available.  They are:
  -- Berthoud Pass:  Sledding used to be available at the top of Berthoud Pass 
  -- Water Board: The sledding hill just south of the Mary Jane turnoff is now closed 
Instead, choose the small sledding hill near the Zephyr, the sledding hill in downtown Winter Park, or the Fraser Tubing hill [fee charged and lift served].

Winter Park Community Sledding and Tubing Hill
The town of Winter Park has groomed snow in their Hideaway Park community park.  The park is located near the chamber of commerce or roughly across the street from the McDonalds.  There is a large "big kid" hill and a smaller one for younger children near the picnic shelter.  There is no charge.  Bring your own tube as there are no services.   Credit for grooming goes to Grand Adventures [Snowmobile Provider].

The whole family can enjoy a snow tubing adventure.  After an exhilarating ride down more than 100 vertical feet, ride one of two specially designed lifts back to the start.  Take as many rides as you like.  Prices include rental of large inner tubes.

Located behind the Alco store across the street from Safeway.  From the Zephyr Lodge take US 40 north 6 miles to the town of Fraser.  Turn left at the traffic light.  Just after you pass under the railroad tracks and go up the hill, the Fraser tubing hill will be on your right.
