Zephyr Lodge Condo -- Area Information

This information is compiled to assist guests who rent our Condo at the Zephyr Mountain Lodge.  If you've arrived at this page as a result of a web search on Colorado Boating, we hope you benefit from the information.  And if you need lodging, thank you for considering us.

Nestled in the mountains and bordered by Rocky Mountain National Park, Grand County's lake region provides spectacular views of aquatic life, mountain peaks and pristine forest.   Lake Granby, Shadow Mountain Reservoir, and Grand Lake are home to power boating, water skiing, sail boating, and wind surfing.  Marina's at all three lakes offer a variety of boats for rent.   You can drive to these recreation spots in 30 to 45 minutes from the Winter Park Base and Zephyr Mountain Lodge.

Sailing is one of the few sports that still leaves humans completely reliant on nature.  In Grand County that reliance can be a challenge as the winds are generally light.  When the wind does blow it is usually gusty and from variable directions.   Experienced sailors are advised to relax and enjoy a leisurely cruise while enjoying the scenery.  Novice sailors are encouraged to seek instruction [See Highland Marina below] and enjoy the thrill of learning a new sport.  One little known fact is that the Grand Lake Yacht Club on Grand Lake holds the title for the "world's highest yacht anchorage"

When the wind is light the waves are small, and that means power boaters have an excellent time.   And the Grand County lakes accommodate power boaters including water skiers and jet-skiers.  One recommendation is to bring wetsuits for anyone who will be in the water or getting wet.  These lakes are fed by chilly mountain streams.

Two more large bodies of water are frequently enjoyed in Grand County:  Williams Fork Reservoir and Wolford Reservoir.  They are frequented more by fishermen than pleasure boaters and are just over an hour by car from Winter Park Base and the Zephyr Mountain Lodge.

Highland Marina on Lake Granby

Highland Marina specializes in Landau Pontoon Boats and Glastron Power Boats.  Prices run from $60 for two hours to $200 for all day and vary depending on the boat selected.   Highland Marina also has sailboats and sailboat lessons available.  Advance reservations for all arrangements are recommended.   Highland Marina is 8 miles north of Granby and about 35 minutes from Winter Park Base and the  Zephyr Mountain Lodge.

At the SolVista Marina on Grand Lake, you can rent a fishing boat, kayak, pedal boat or even a pontoon boat.  Prices start at $35 per hour.  Lake tours are available in the morning and afternoon.
