Kalihiwai Beach |

![]() |
Description --- Kalihiwai Beach is a small quiet beach in a nice semicircle cove bounded by sheer rock on one side and a rolling green hill on the other side. The picturesque setting includes the clear freshwater Kalihiwai River which has carved a large lagoon Swimming is fine and surf remains low most of the year. The waves rise very slowly and break in long even crests over the sloping sandy bottom. Wave jumping, boogie boarding, and body surfing are excellent. The beach is fine sand a little colored from river silt. Little children love to splash in the Kalihiwai river lagoon. Older kids enjoy a rope swing with it's drop into the blue pacific. Kayak trips are often arranged upriver to visit several water falls. The Kalihiwai Road used to cross the river and rejoin Highway 56. But a devastating tidal wave destroyed the bridge in 1946, and it has never been rebuilt. |
