Surfing is a sport enthusiastically enjoyed by all ages in the Hawaiian Islands
and is rich in cultural heritage. Whether you've been "hanging ten" since
childhood or have never been on a surfboard, Kauai is the place to give this
popular sport a try.
If the traditional long -- 8 to 10 foot -- board doesn't sound interesting, consider body surfing, boogie boarding, or windsurfing. Some are easier [boogie boarding] and some much tougher [wind surfing] than regular surf board riding. Surfing lessons are a good idea for learning the basics. Surf board rentals are available island-wide. Don't be afraid to ask for help in choosing the right board for your size and level of experience. While you are there, ask about surf conditions around the island as conditions vary considerably according to time of year and beach location. |
