INTRODUCTION Many couples are now bringing their children to Kauai. This is especially true during the summer vacation months -- July and August. For most, the beach remains the top attraction for young and old alike. If the weather cooperates, you children will be occupied day in and day out. For days when you want an adult get-away, we offer some suggestions for child care. And for a break from the beach, we offer some other suggestions for either 0-6 or 6-12 year olds. Obviously your choice of activity will depend greatly on your child, his/her age, and prior experience.
CHILD CARE -- PROFESSIONAL LICENSED AGENCIES Only one agency is listed in the yellow pages catering to visitors needs. They are TB tested, and CPR and first Aid certified. CHILD CARE -- OTHER Check with the front desk of your resort for a list of Child Care providers. These self employed locals should be reviewed just as you would review someone watching your child at home.
GOOD ACTIVITIES FOR CHILDREN 6 and Under The Beach -- The beach is always a hit. Anini Beach or Hanalei Beach or Princeville Beach are recommended. Playground -- There is a playground at the Library near the Princeville Commercial Center. Swimming Pool -- The Pool at your Resort is always a hit with kids. Amusement Center -- Two establishments specially aimed at providing enjoyment for your youngster. Tag-along on just about any adult tour -- at this young age, children can accompany adults on most tours where the adult rides along but doesn't have to participate or drive. These could be helicopter, boat, movie location, or guided tours.
GOOD ACTIVITIES FOR CHILDREN 6-12 The Beach -- The beach is always a hit. Choose your North Shore beach based on surf conditions. Miniature Golf -- Make a stop at Aloha Mini Golf on a trip through Lihue. Watch a Movie -- The theater in Kapaa or Lihue probably has the best children's movie selection. Go for an Ice-cream -- You have a number of places in Princeville Center, Hanalei, and Kapaa to choose from. Playground -- There is a playground at the Library near the Princeville Commercial Center. Swimming Pool -- The Pool at your Resort is always a hit with kids. Amusement Center -- Two establishments specially aimed at providing enjoyment for your youngster. Participate on just about any adult tour -- at this age, children can participate on most tours if their adult takes special care to explain and what is going on. These could be helicopter, boat, movie location, or guided tours. Hike along the Lava Rocks to Queens Bath -- This easy half mile walk affords plenty of opportunity to play in the lava pools and along the rocks. When taking kids, this outing can easily take three times as long. More serious hikes -- Depending on the child and their experience, they may well enjoy more lengthy hikes in Kauai. Play Tennis -- If your child plays tennis, why not a game in Kauai at your resort's tennis courts. Bowling -- Another possible activity while in Lihue is bowling.
ACTIVITIES NOT RECOMMENDED Unless your child is already accomplished at these activities, we would recommend that they get a little older before partaking in Kauai
