Golfing is a very popular activity on Kauai and a great way to spend time outdoors amid spectacular views. There are exceptional courses right in Princeville. Should you tire of these, sample Wailua, Lihue, Poipu and even west to Kalahea. Kauai has affordable municipal courses and lower twilight rates for the budget minded. Tee up as early as 7AM, or get reduced rates by playing after a specific time on certain days.
GOLF COURSES NORTH SHORE Makai Golf Course: 808-826-3580 or 800-826-1105 The Makai course is divided into the Woods Nine, the Lakes Nine, and the Ocean Nine. The Ocean Nine wanders to the sea coast and back, offering many enchanting views of the blue Pacific. The Lakes Nine heads out in the opposite direction and works its way back to the ocean and cliffs. The Woods are the inland nine; the Woods features rock garden style bunkers and views of the mountains with towering waterfalls. This top championship course boasts awesome views and is named the "Seventh Best Golf Course" in the State of Hawaii by Golf Digest. All are Par 36. Prince Golf and Country Club 808-826-5000 or 800-826-1105 Since its opening in 1990, the prince Course has consistently been chosen among the top golf courses in the country by golf Digest, Golf Magazine, Golfweek Magazine and Western Links Magazine. Currently the Prince is rated the "Number One Course in the State of Hawaii by Golf Digest Magazine, and #51 in the country. The challenging 18 hole course spans 390 acres of rolling tableland bisected by tropical jungles, waterfalls, streams, and ravines. The course sits on 390 acres molded to create oceanviews from every hole. This is the most challenging course in Kauai; accuracy is key. The Prince is a Robert Trent Jones Jr masterpiece Par 72. The average golfer may find the Prince Course intimidating, but they never mind because it is so beautiful. Combination Makai + Prince multi-round play is available at substantial discount. This is your chance to play at one of the best golf courses in Kauai. GOLF COURSES EAST SIDE Puakoa Course 808-245-8756 Winner of Sport Illustrated Top 10 best 9 hole golf courses in the Country. Great views of the pacific ocean. Par 40 on an actual 10 holes. Wailua Golf Course 808-241-6666 Par 72. Kauai Lagoons Golf Club 808-241-6000 or 800-634-6400 http://www.golfbc.com The Kauai Lagoons Golf Club features two courses. The Kiele Course and the Mokihana Course are both Par 72 and were both designed by Jack Nicklaus. At Kauai Lagoons, there is a spa, dining, rental clubs & shoes, plus an outstanding pro shop. Tee times may be made 30 days in advance. The Mokihana Course is a link-style course with bunkers that are a little less severe than Kiele; emphasis is on the short game. The signature hole of the 7070 yard Kauai Kiele Course is the par 4 hole number 16 measuring 330 yards; the green is built on a small peninsula that juts into the sea. The Kiele course is a mixture of tournament-quality challenge and high traffic playability. GOLF COURSES SOUTH SHORE Kiahuna Golf Club 808-742-9595 www.kiahunagolf.com Designed by world famous golf architect, Robert Trent Jones Jr. Winner of 4-Star award by Golf Digest. Nearly 6400 yards long and Par 70. Abundant water hazards and challenging prevailing trade winds characterize Kiahuna as "the longest short golf course you'll ever play". Located across from Poipu Beach, it meanders around lakes, lava tubes and the cave habitat for the rare blind-eye spider. It plays around four large archaeological sites ranging from an ancient Hawaiian temple to the remains of a 1800 Portuguese home and crypt. See wonderful panoramic ocean and distant mountain views. At any given time, half the players are Kauai residents, the other half visitors. The pro shop is open 7AM to 6PM. Club and shoe rentals are available. Poipu Bay Resort Golf Course 808-742-8711 www.poipubay.com At Poipu Bay renown designer Robert Trent Jones Jr has designed another Kauai Golf Course. Poipu Bay is sculpted from a rolling plateau eight stories above the expansive blue waters of the Pacific Ocean and backed by emerald mountains in the distance. Nestled among the contours of Poipu Bay are remains of Hawaiian places of worship and ancient stone walls. Golf Digest has rated Poipu Bay one of the top 10 courses in Hawaii. It is a links style course. Golf Magazine gave Poipu Bay the Gold Medal Award and top 18 in the nation. The course is par 72. GOLF COURSE WEST SIDE Kukuiolono Golf Course 808-332-9151 This 9 hole course is Par 36. It is a fun course in a spectacular location with scenic views of the entire south coast. And you cant beat the price -- under $10 for a whole day of golf. The course is in the Kukuiolono Park, a beautiful wooded area. Along the course, you will see wild chickens, ancient Hawaiian rock structures, and Japanese gardens. There ar eplenty of trees to keep you on your game.
