INTRODUCTION
Sport fishing is one of the more popular activities in Kauai.

Salt Water deep sea fishing specializes in

- marlin [blue, black, and stripers]

Boats can vary widely and can add/detract from your fishing experience. Bertrams and Radons are popular. Bertrams are larger, heavier, more stable and more luxurious than Radons. Fresh Water anglers can enjoy fishing for smallmouth and large mouth bass, tucunare [peacock bass], channel catfish, oscar trout and rainbow trout. Local guides take guests to various public and private lakes and streams.

Fishing License is required when freshwater fishing in Kauai. You may obtain one OnLine from the State Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of Aquatic Resources, PO Box 1671, Lihue, HI, 96766 808-241-3400. Or you may obtain one through one of the local fishing stores. A 7-day tourist license was just $10 in 2004 [plus $1 convenience fee]. 30 day and annual licenses are also available.

FRESH WATER FISHING
The best freshwater fishing is at Puu Lua Reservoir in Kokee State Park. But the season is very limited [Daily Aug 1-16, and Weekends Aug and Sept]. Other reservoir's more convenient to Princeville also have good fishing.
