Rocky Mountain National Park is quietly beautiful in the Winter months.
Gone are the millions of visitors motoring over Trail Ridge Road snapping
pictures at every turn. Indeed, Trail Ridge Road is closed for most of its
length -- not to re-open until Memorial Day. Most of the hiking, camping,
nature viewing, and other activities are on hold till the snow melts and the
weather warms. Nevertheless the mountains are beautiful -- while virtually
inaccessible. Experienced cross country skiers and snowshoe-ers are welcome inside the park. Locals from Grand Lake, Granby, Fraser, and Winter Park frequent the trails. Rugged conditions and long distances from any assistance cause us to suggest to our web visitors to eliminate save Rocky Mountain National Park for a summertime visit.
