Three ice rinks are available for those who wish to mix a little ice skating in
with their skiing/snowboarding holiday. |
|
|
The Cooper Creek Square Ice Rink
is maintained by the town of Winter Park. It is located in a section of
the Winter Park town parking garage. The skating is free. The
skating area is shaded from the sun yielding a long season -- early December to
mid March. Skates are available for rent from Christy's Sport Shop
in Cooper Square Shopping Center -- 970-726-8873 -- or from the Viking Sports
Shop -- 970-726-8885.
From the Zephyr Lodge head to the main ski area entrance and drive north on
US40 for 3.1 miles. Turn left just before the brick shopping plaza --
Cooper Creek Square. After a few hundred feet the Winter Park parking
garage will be ahead to your left. Turn left and follow the signs to park
in the structure. The skating is on the ground level at the east end of
the parking structure. |

The Fraser Recreation Center
is a full hockey sized ice rink suitable for team play and complete
with rudimentary plywood sides. There are lights for night skating
and/or games. Bring your own skates as there are no shops nearby.
Or rent your skates from Christy's or Viking [above] and then drive to the
sports complex. Call ahead for availability as a local hockey game could
be underway -- Call 970-726-8968 or 970-726-4708 for information. From the Zephyr Lodge head to the main ski area entrance and drive North on US40 5.6 miles to the light at the Safeway store in Fraser. Continue on US40 another 0.9 miles and turn left on County Road 5. Go 0.2 miles over tracks to the Fraser Sports Complex. |

Devils Thumb Ranch
opened a nice ice skating rink in 2002. The rink is larger than the
Cooper Creek Square rink but not as large as the Fraser Recreation Center rink.
Devil's Thumb personnel take nice care of the ice. There are lights for
night skating. The sides are simple snow banks. Skates are
available for rent. There is a fee for use of the rink. Call 970-726-8231 for more information or visit www.devilsthumbranch.com From the Zephyr Lodge head to the main ski area entrance and drive North on US 40 8.6 miles to County Road 83 -- the turnoff for Devil's Thumb Ranch. Take the right hand fork and follow the road 3 miles to Devils Thumb Ranch. |
