Special Christmas Events |

Every year there are special Christmas Eve Events at the Winter Park Ski area.
On December 24 a large bonfire is lit at the base beside the Zephyr Lift.
Christmas carols fill the air. Darkness falls. All the sudden over a
hundred of Winter Park's best skiers slowly parade down the Hughes ski trail
waving red torches back and forth. As the procession nears the bottom,
Santa bursts forth amid cheers from perhaps a thousand onlookers. As the
skier parade completes, the Hughes Trail lights up once again -- this time to
Winter Park's fleet of snow cats all decked out in brightly colored lights.
As the snow cats make their way to the base, a brilliant fireworks display
erupts. All eyes are to the sky for the next 15 minutes. The evening's festivities are capped by religious celebrations -- Catholic and Christian -- in the base area buildings.
On Christmas Day, Santa can be seen driving a snowmobile passing out candy canes to young skiers.
Of course the Zephyr Mountain Lodge and adjoining plaza area are all decked out in lights and festive ornaments. |

Locals and Front Range visitors may choose to spend a day cutting a Christmas tree in the forest near Winter Park. For details, see the Forest Service Website. |
